LAST CHANCE: Spring Awakening, Women Beware Women, Dust and More

By Adam Hetrick
13 Jan 2009

School is out for a rock-scored Tony-winning musical, while an Off-Broadway power play, a game of sexual politics, a festival of innovative works and a classic Broadway-bound musical conclude their engagements.

What follows is Playbill.com's weekly "Last Chance" reminder to catch Broadway, Off-Broadway and premiere productions before they close.

Closing Jan. 17

  • West Side Story (Pre-Broadway at the National Theatre). The reconceived bilingual Arthur Laurents-helmed revival of West Side Story, starring Matt Cavenaugh, Josefina Scaglione and Karen Olivo, concludes its Washington, D.C. try-out prior to its Broadway rumble at the Palace Theatre in February. For tickets visit Telecharge.

    Closing Jan. 18

  • Spring Awakening (On Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre). The energetic Tony-winning rock musical, featuring a score by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, currently stars Hunter Parrish, Alexandra Socha and Gerard Canonico as the repressed teens who break free from life in a series of explosive songs. For tickets visit SpringAwakening.

  • Women Beware Women (Off-Broadway at the Theater at St. Clement's). The extended Red Bull Theater Company engagement of Thomas Middleton's satire explores sexual politics in a society imploding under the weight of manipulation, victimization and inequality. For tickets visit RedBullTheater.

  • Dust (Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre). Tony nominee Hunter Foster and Richard Masur co-star in Billy Goda's thriller about an executive and ex-con who turn a battle of wills into a war for respect and survival. For tickets visit Telecharge.

  • Under the Radar Festival (In Residence at the Public Theater). Sixteen new works, including COUNTY OF KINGS, Transition, Architecting and the break/s, comprise the annual 12-day festival that delivers a cross section of new theatre from around the world spotlighting artists ranging from emerging talents to masters in the field. For tickets, visit PublicTheater.
