Krasker, who has produced ten Sondheim cast albums – including the Grammy-nominated revival recordings of Assassins, Sweeney Todd and Company – told Playbill.com that he will produce the recording of the Sondheim musical that explores the life of the eccentric Mizner brothers.
The cast of the recent Public Theater engagement of Road Show will assemble in February to record the single CD; a spring in-store arrival is likely, Krasker said. Sondheim announced plans for the cast recording during an interview with New York Times columnist Frank Rich at Avery Fisher Hall on Jan. 18.
The Road Show album marks a return to the property for Krasker, who co-produced the world premiere recording of the musical's earlier incarnation, Bounce, which played out- of-town engagements at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and Washington, DC's Kennedy Center in 2004. The Public Theater engagement of Road Show boasted new and reassigned songs, lyrical revisions and the excision of a supporting character.
Tony-winning Sweeney Todd director John Doyle helmed the Public Theater world premiere. The cast featured Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani as the eccentric Wilson and Addison Mizner, respectively, as well as Alma Cuervo as Mama, William Parry as Papa, Claybourne Elder as Hollis and ensemble members Aisha de Haas, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Mylinda Hull, Mel Johnson, Jr., Orville Mendoza, Anne L. Nathan, Tom Nelis, Matt Stocke, William Youmans and Kristine Zbornik.
Road Show began performances at the Public Oct. 28, 2008, and officially opened Nov. 18. The production concluded its extended run Dec. 28, 2008.
