The Tony special, which was taped May 11, 2008, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, has been nominated in the Best Special Event Coverage category (executive producers Steve Mayer and Jan Friedlander Svendsen; producers Mike Mathis and Britt Marden and Director Brad Fuss).
The concert's competitors include "51st Annual New York Emmy Awards" (Nomi Roher, producer); "New York 360 Angle: NYC TV 5th Anniversary" (Arick Wierson, executive producer); and "The New York Auto Show" (Miriam Coletta, executive producer).
Nominees in the ARTS: Program/Special category include "Broadway Backstage: Spring Preview" (Nancy Geraghty Kennedy, executive producer; Diane Oates, producer; Michelle Charlesworth, Harvey Fierstein, hosts); "Cool in Your Code: East Village" (Hank Wasiak, executive producer/host); "In the Heights" (Bob Morris, producer); "My First Time: The Tribeca Film Festival" (Morgan hertzan, executive producer); and "NYC Soundtracks" (Lydia Murphy-Stephans, executive producer).

The Tony concert featured performances from A Catered Affair, Cry-Baby, Grease, Gypsy, In the Heights, Passing Strange, South Pacific, Sunday in the Park With George, The Little Mermaid and Xanadu as well as interviews with 2008 Tony nominees Patrick Stewart, Kate Fleetwood, Laurence Fishburne, Laurie Metcalf, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Wopat, Andrea Martin, Deanna Dunagan, Paulo Szot, Rob Ashford, Jenna Russell, Stew, Mark Rylance and Chris Fitzgerald.
