By-invitation-only readings of the new musical The Awakening of Angel DeLuna will be held March 23 at Theater 80 in Manhattan.
Directed by Tracy Bersley, the 3 and 7 PM readings will feature the talents of "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini as well as Bethe B. Austin (in the title role), Vayu O'Donnell, Dan Sharkey and Kirby Ward.
The Awakening was penned by Judylynn Schmidt (book and lyrics) and Lee Ellis (music and lyrics). Barbara Anselmi will be the musical director.
"Set in a Hoboken Circus during the Great Depression," The Awakening of Angel DeLuna, according to press notes, "weaves the enchanting tale of Angelina 'Angel' DeLuna, a fallen trapeze star whose faith is tested when a mystical stranger comes to dismantle her beloved carousel. As Angel's carousel world comes crashing down around her - the lives of the entire circus troupe are forever changed as together they learn what truly matters in life."
Industry professionals interested in attending the reading should call (347) 442-1106 or email AngelWingsNYC@gmail.com.
