Recent Grease star Laura Osnes steps into the role of Ensign Nellie Forbush in the Tony Award-winning revival of South Pacific at the Vivian Beaumont Theater March 10.
Osnes succeeds Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara, who began maternity leave March 7. O'Hara is scheduled to return to the Lincoln Center Theater production Oct. 6.
Osnes is joined onstage by David Pittsinger, who returns to the production March 10 as French plantation owner Emile de Becque, while Tony winner Paulo Szot fulfills an opera commitment in Opera Toulouse's production of Carmen. Pittsinger previously filled in for Szot in the musical last December. Szot returns to South Pacific April 14.
Laura Osnes made her Broadway debut as Sandy in the 2007 revival of Grease following a talent search on the reality-television competition "Grease: You're The One That I Want." She was also recently seen in the Kennedy Center's Broadway: Three Generations concerts.
Pittsinger made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Truelove in The Rake's Progress. He went on to appear in the MET productions of Don Carlo, La Boheme, Die Zauberflote and Giulio Cesare. He also appeared in the New York City Opera's concert performance of Antony and Cleopatra at Carnegie Hall in January.
