The winner of the contest will work directly with the Billy Elliot creative team to develop and produce the play, which will be performed live as part of the Fidelity FutureStage gala at the Imperial Theatre on June 15.
The Fidelity FutureStage Playwriting Contest is open to full-time students (grades 9-12) attending school in the following New York and New Jersey counties: Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester; Bergen, Essex and Hudson. The deadline for submission is 11:50 PM on April 30.
A panel of Broadway professionals, including Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall, will evaluate the submissions in the categories of originality/creativity; character development; structure of plot and dialogue; and appropriateness of the play to themes of Billy Elliot. The winner will be revealed in late May.
