Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) directs the new work penned by Scott and Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie) with musical supervision by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal).

Eamon Foley, Lindsey Mendez and Betsy Wolfe are also featured in the cast. The show officially opens May 3 for a run slated through May 31.

The work is billed as "the story of a young woman's psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future," according to show notes. "Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York (with a disturbing detour through YouTube)."

Though not defined as a musical or play with music, Everyday Rapture features songs made famous by David Byrne, George Harrison, The Dap Kings and Judy Garland. Musical staging is by Michele Lynch, orchestrations by Tom Kitt and musical direction by Carmel Dean.

Scott — recently seen as Ursula in Broadway's The Little Mermaid — is known for her work in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Aida and The Last Five Years. She has also appeared on stage in Landscape of the Body, Tommy, Rent, Debbie Does Dallas, Faust and Over and Over. With husband Kurt Deutsch, Scott also co-founded Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records (sh-k-boom.com).

Foley played on Broadway in 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Gypsy. Mendez was seen onstage in the recent revival of Grease and in Princesses at Goodspeed Opera House. Wolfe's credits include Broadway's 110 in the Shade, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Wonderful Life.

A previous version of Everyday Rapture, entitled You May Now Worship Me, was presented March 31, 2008, to benefit the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative of The Actors Fund.

Second Stages's final show of the season (to replace the recent postponement of Douglas Carter Beane's world premiere play Mr. & Mrs. Fitch) is yet to be announced.
