New Group artistic director Scott Elliott stages the American premiere of the work, which began performances May 4 for a run at The Acorn @ Theatre Row through June 27.
Bryggman, a two-time Tony Award nominee (for Proof and Picnic) has also been seen on Broadway in Twelve Angry Men and Festen and Off-Broadway in Occupant. He is joined onstage by Lansbury (Hedda Gabler, Major Barbara) and newcomer Savane (star of film "Goodbye Solo").
"On the barren, diamond-diving coast of South Africa, Johan and Thami, an ex-cop and a gardener from starkly contrasting backgrounds, maintain a beachfront guest lodge during the off-season while looking for a way out," reads a show description. "When Smith, a retired businessman, shows up one foggy night, the two men think they've found an ideal investor for their scheme to buy into a government-run mining concession. Soon, these rootless men find themselves in a power struggle fueled by greed, desperation and entitlement."
The design team includes Derek McLane (set), Eric Becker (costume), Jason Lyons (lighting) and Shane Rettig (sound).
Tickets to The New Group's Groundswell at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street, are available by calling (212) 279-4200. For more information visit thenewgroup.org.
