A Steady Rain Being Developed as Feature Film

Playwright Keith Huff is currently penning a screen adaptation of his Broadway-bound play A Steady Rain, which is set to begin performances at the Schoenfeld Theatre Sept. 10.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Huff has sold the film rights to the producers of the Broadway venture, including Frederick Zollo, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The Broadway production of the two-character play will star Tony winner Hugh Jackman (Boy from Oz, "X-Men") and Daniel Craig ("Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace").

Tony Award nominee John Crowley directs the limited 12-week Broadway engagement that officially opens Sept. 29 and will run through Dec. 6. A Steady Rain is part of Huff's trilogy about Chicago police officers that also includes The Detective's Wife and Tell Us of the Night.

A Steady Rain, according to press notes for the Broadway run, "is a new American play that tells the story of two Chicago cops who are lifelong friends and their differing accounts of a few harrowing days that changed their lives forever."

The highly anticipated drama, which has yet to begin ticket sales for the general public, already has an advance of $3 million solely from the American Express cardholders pre-sale. Tickets will go on sale to the general public July 25.

Huff's plays also include Pursued by Happiness, Gray City and The Bird and Mr. Banks.
