The Dreamworks musical Shrek will launch a new day-of-performance discount ticket lottery beginning Aug. 1 at the Broadway Theatre.

Two hours prior to each performance, the Shrek box office will make 16 tickets (priced $26.50) available to theatregoers. Individuals will then place their names into a raffle for a random drawing to purchase up to two tickets for the imminent performance. A photo ID will be required for purchase.

Shrek features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), music by Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Jeanine Tesori (Violet, Caroline, or Change) and direction by Tony Award nominee Jason Moore (Avenue Q).

Based on the Dreamworks film franchise and the William Steig book, Shrek began previews Nov. 8 and officially opened on Broadway Dec. 14.

The musical stars Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James in the title role, opposite Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona. Cast members also include Tony nominee Daniel Breaker as Donkey, Tony nominee John Tartaglia as Pinocchio and Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad.

Show times are Tuesday at 7 PM, Wednesday-Saturday at 8 PM with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 3 PM.
