Spike Lee's screen version of the Broadway musical Passing Strange hits movie theatres Aug. 21 featuring the original cast and band.

The 135-minute film was shot live at the Belasco Theatre during the Annie Dorsen-staged Broadway run.
Passing Strange features the music of Stew and Heidi Rodewald with lyrics and Tony Award-winning book by Stew.
Stew, Rodewald and the original Broadway cast — de'Adre Aziza, Daniel Breaker, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, Chad Goodridge and Rebecca Naomi Jones — star in the film. The onstage band includes Jon Spurney, Christian Cassan and Christian Gibbs.
The documentary "Passing Strange The Movie" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was screened at the 2009 SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals.
