The production, which began previews at the Broadway venue March 30 and officially opened April 19, will have played a total of 22 previews and 137 regular performances.
McTeer and Walter also starred in the London production of the Friedrich Schiller play. Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) directs. The Broadway production received seven Tony nominations, winning one for Anthony Ward (Best Costume Design of a Play).
Joining the two actresses in Peter Oswald's version of the Schiller classic are Michael Countryman as Sir Amias Paulet; Adam Greer as O'Kelly; John Benjamin Hickey as Earl of Leicester; Michael Rudko as Count Aubespine/Melvil; Robert Stanton as William Davison; Maria Tucci as Hanna Kennedy; Chandler Williams as Mortimer; Nicholas Woodeson as Lord Burleigh and Brian Murray as Earl of Shrewsbury. The company also features Jacqueline Antaramian, Tony Carlin, Monique Fowler and Guy Paul.
Mary Stuart, according to press notes, "is a thrilling account of the extraordinary relationship between England's Elizabeth I (Harriet Walter) and her cousin, Mary Queen of Scots (Janet McTeer), Elizabeth's rival to the throne. With its behind the scenes intrigue, scheming and betrayal, the play has the contemporary feel of a modern-day political thriller."
