Aida Star Cox Will Be Part of Second Annual Broadway in South Africa Concert

Singer-songwriter Deborah Cox, who starred in the title role of the Broadway production of Aida, is the latest addition to the starry lineup for Broadway in South Africa: The Concert, which will be presented Oct. 5 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in Manhattan.

The 7:30 PM concert will feature original songs based on stories written by Broadway in South Africa students who participated in a four-day arts intensive that was held in January in Cape Town. Those commissioned to pen these songs include composers Deborah Abramson, Scott Alan with Shoshana Bean, Jeff Bowen, Craig Carnelia, Matt Gould, Joe Iconis, Daniel Larsen, Joel B., Selloane Nkhela, Ryan Scott Oliver and Katie Thompson.

The new songs will be performed at the upcoming concert by Uzo Aduba, Shoshana Bean, Lilli Cooper, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Darius de Haas, Frankie James Grande, Adam Kantor and Kate Shindle. The aforementioned Cox will also perform.

The evening will also boast a performance by the South African cast members of Broadway's The Lion King as well as a concert dance piece choreographed by Charles O. Anderson, artistic director and founder of Dance Theater X.

Jen Bender will direct Broadway in South Africa: The Concert with musical direction by Jesse Vargas.

VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to mingle with the performers at a 6 PM pre-show reception and a post-show party.
