Toxic Avenger star and "American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo will be part of the concert presentation of the new musical Liberty Sept. 29 at the Acorn Theatre.

Igor Goldin will direct with musical direction by Jeffrey Lodin.

DeGarmo (Hairspray, Joseph…) will star as Liberty in a cast that also features Ryan Duncan (Altar Boyz, Shrek) as James Goodleaf, Leah Horowitz (Les Miserables) as Emma Lazarus and Destan Owens (Chicago, Rent) as Samuel Ferguson. Show time is 8 PM.

The new musical, which features book and lyrics by Dana Leslie Goldstein and music by Jonathan Goldstein, is described as such: "A beautiful, French immigrant arrives in New York Harbor. There's something different about her, something larger than life. It's the age of optimism, but there's a recession going on, and immigration is a hot-button issue. Powerful political forces are working against her, and a precious few see her potential. Liberty tells the story of one statuesque immigrant's struggle, strife and success in the ever-evolving country she's come to symbolize."

The creative team includes Josh Zangen (set designer), Michael Gottlieb (lighting designer) and Austin Switser (projections designer).
