Tony Kelly directs and Ken Roberson choreographs the play written and performed by Domingo. Performances began Sept. 4 for a run slated through Oct. 18.
According to Vineyard notes, A Boy and His Soul "explores the life experiences of a young African-American man in 1980s Philadelphia, propelled by the beat of classical soul."
Domingo appeared on Broadway in Passing Strange and has also played Off-Broadway in Bright Ideas, Henry V and in the world premiere of Athol Fugard's Coming Home. He has also been seen on the Logo Network's "The Big Gay Sketch Show."
The design team for A Boy and His Soul features Rachel Hauck (set), Toni-Leslie James (costume), Marcus Doshi (lighting) and Tom Morse (sound). Winnie Y. Lok serves as production stage manager.
The show opens the Vineyard 2009-10 season. Next up will be Adam Rapp's The Metal Children (Feb. 3-March 14, 2010) and the musical The Burnt Part Boys (May-June 2010) in a co-production with Playwrights Horizons (at the latter company's Off-Broadway home).
