Directed by Nicholas Martin, the 18th-century Restoration-style comedy will begin performances in the Matthews Theatre Oct. 13 with an official opening Oct. 16. Performances will continue through Nov. 1.
Two-time Obie Award winner Kristine Nielsen and theatre veteran Paxton Whitehead will head a cast that also includes Brooks Ashmanskas, Rebecca Brooksher, Francesca Choy-Kee, Rich Dreher, Brent Langdon, John O’Creagh, Jessica Stone, Jon Patrick Walker, and Jeremy Webb with ensemble members Zackary Grady and Adam Lerman.
A boisterous comedy of mistaken identities, She Stoops to Conquer, press notes state, "has delighted audiences for over two centuries with its gorgeous language, elegant costumes, and outright hilarity. Sparks fly when young urbanite Charles Marlow arrives at a country estate to court Kate Hardcastle, only to take her father for an innkeeper and her for a saucy barmaid! Good-natured hijinks and grand pretensions abound in this frothy romp that pits town against country and parent against child."
The design team for the production includes David Korins (sets), Gabriel Berry (costumes), Ben Stanton (lighting) and Drew Levy (sound).
