The New York Musical Theatre Festival concert presentation of Liberty, starring "American Idol" finalist Diana DeGarmo, is presented Sept. 29 at the Acorn Theatre.

Igor Goldin stages the musical that has book and lyrics by Dana Leslie Goldstein and music by Jonathan Goldstein. Jeffrey Lodin serves as musical director. Show time is 8 PM.

DeGarmo (Toxic Avenger, Hairspray, Joseph…) appears in the title role, with fellow cast members Ryan Duncan (Altar Boyz, Shrek) as James Goodleaf, Leah Horowitz (Les Miserables) as Emma Lazarus and Destan Owens (Chicago, Rent) as Samuel Ferguson.

Liberty is described as such: "A beautiful, French immigrant arrives in New York Harbor. There's something different about her, something larger than life. It's the age of optimism, but there's a recession going on, and immigration is a hot-button issue. Powerful political forces are working against her, and a precious few see her potential. Liberty tells the story of one statuesque immigrant's struggle, strife and success in the ever-evolving country she's come to symbolize."

The creative team includes Josh Zangen (set designer), Michael Gottlieb (lighting designer) and Austin Switser (projections designer).
