Iconic U.K. pop star Boy George will return to the Leicester Square Theatre – original West End home of his 2002 musical Taboo that he subsequently took to Broadway — for a ten-night residency, beginning Dec. 20 for a run through Dec. 30.

Presented under the title Boy George in Concert — Up Close and Personal, the show is described in press materials as "stripped down, acoustic and unplugged," with George performing a set of exclusive, intimate shows ahead of his 2010 European tour. The program will include some of his biggest hits from Culture Club, his solo career, new writing and some covers.

Boy George, who was released from a U.K. prison in May following a conviction for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort in his East London flat, first shot to international stardom in the 1980’s as the front man of the pop band Culture Club. He has sold over 50 million albums and has had top 10 hits in every country.

He returned to performing live in concert in 2008 after a ten-year-absence, though had in the intervening period played the character of Leigh Bowery in both the West End and Broadway incarnations of Taboo. On Broadway, he was billed as a performer under his birth name, George O'Dowd, but was nominated for the 2004 Tony Award for Best Original Score under the name Boy George.
