Hollywood's Blank Theatre Company's 19th season, entitled "Great Writers," will feature the work of David Sedaris, Christopher Durang and Michael John LaChiusa as well as 12 new plays penned by teenaged playwrights.

Founding artistic director Daniel Henning and artistic producer Noah Wyle announced the new season Oct. 6. Titles include Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries, Durang's Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them and LaChiusa's See What I Wanna See.

The upcoming season will be presented at two different Hollywood theatres: The Blank's 2nd Stage Theatre on Theatre Row and the Stella Adler Theatre on Hollywood Blvd & Highland.

Season details follow:

The Santaland Diaries
by David Sedaris
Directed by Michael Matthews
Nov. 20-Dec. 20, 2009
"An outrageously funny one-man play (from NPR's well-loved humorist David Sedaris) about the author's experiences as an unemployed writer taking a job as an elf at Macy's. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa's workshop, he becomes battle weary and bitter, occasionally taking out his frustrations on the children and parents alike."

Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them by Christopher Durang
Directed by Daniel Henning
Jan. 30-March 14, 2010
"Christopher Durang turns political humor upside down with this raucous and provocative satire about America's growing homeland 'insecurity.' A young woman is suddenly in crisis: Is her new husband, whom she married when drunk, a terrorist? Or just crazy? Or both? Is her father's hobby of butterfly collecting really a cover for his involvement in a shadow government? Why does her mother enjoy going to the theatre so much? Does she seek mental escape, or is she insane?"

See What I Wanna See
Words and music by Michael John LaChiusa
Directed by Daniel Henning
April 10-May 23, 2010
The musical is about "lust, greed, murder, faith, and redemption based on three short stories that unfold like a Japanese screen painting. In 'Kesa and Morito,' set in medieval Japan, two lovers sing of the ecstasy and torment of their affair. 'R Shomon,' set in 1951 New York City, follows the investigation of a crime of passion and the witnesses’ contradicting versions of the event. 'Gloryday,' set in present day New York, presents a priest during a crisis of faith after a terrible tragedy strikes the city. This fascinating musical asks the question, 'What is truth?'"

18th Annual Nationwide Young Playwrights Festival
12 World Premieres
June 3-27, 2010
"If we didn't tell you the plays were by teenagers, you wouldn't know. The 12 best plays in the nation are chosen by a panel of theatre professionals from submissions by teenage playwrights. Winning writers are next assigned a mentor and then a professional director who guide their scripts to the stage. We then cast the plays with some of Hollywood's hottest award-winning actors and present the work in a month-long Festival."
