The True Colors Theatre production of Philip Hayes Dean’s The Sty of the Blind Pig, a mother-daughter comedy set in pre-Civil Rights Chicago, opens in Atlanta Oct. 7.

Andrea Frye, who earned acclaim as the first African-American actress to be authorized by playwright Edward Albee to star in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, stages the production.

Previews began Oct. 4, and performances will run through Nov. 1.

The cast features Earl Billings ("Thank You for Smoking"), Tonia Jackson (Gem of the Ocean), Jahi Kearse (Livin' in the Garden) and Margo Moorer (Amen Corner).

In The Sty of the Blind Pig, press notes state, "Alberta, unmarried and in her thirties, shares an apartment with her mother, Weedy, an old-fashioned woman who finds solace for her trouble in religion. Unexpectedly, a wandering street singer, Blind Jordan, comes to their door searching for a woman he once knew. The others are puzzled, and even frightened by their visitor, but Alberta offers to help him in his quest. This intriguing, finely wrought comedy/drama explores the relationship between a headstrong matriarch and her sensitive daughter."

The production has set design by Dunsi Dai, costume design by Reggie Ray, lighting design by Mary Parker and sound design by Chris Bartelski.
