The New York Musical Theatre Festival presentation of the Allan Harris musical Cross That River begins performances Oct. 12 at TBG Theatre.

Andrew Wilk directs the NYMF bow that features choreography by Tony Award-winning actress Donna McKechnie. John Madore serves as musical director. Cross that River runs through Oct. 18.

Jazz vocalist Harris penned music and lyrics for the production with a book by Emmy winner Wilk. Cross That River, which possesses an eclectic country, bluegrass, soul, rock and gospel score, "depicts the sometimes tragic, sometimes humorous life and times of Blue, a run-away slave who escapes to Texas to become one of America's first Black Cowboys," according to press notes.

The cast comprises Whitney Bashor (Whistle Down the Wind, The Fantasticks), Brandon Gill, Soara-Joye Ross (Tin Pan Alley Rag, Les Miserables), Wendy Fox (Rent), Joseph Melendez (Jesus Christ Superstar), Tony Perry and Charles Wallace (Miss Saigon).

The NYMF production has set and costume design by Anne Patterson, sound design by Timmothy Brannigan, lighting design by Matt Frey and projection design by Michael Clark.
