Patinkin to Receive Prince Rainier III Award at Princess Grace Awards Gala

Tony Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin will be honored at the 2009 Princess Grace Awards gala, which will be held Oct. 21 at Cipriani on 42nd Street in Manhattan.
As part of the gala ceremony, Patinkin will be presented with the Prince Rainier III Award for his contribution to the arts. Created in 2005 in the memory of Prince Rainier, the award has been previously presented to Mikhail Baryshnikov, Tyla Tharp, George Lucas and Glenn Close.
Patinkin earned a Tony Award for his Broadway debut as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita and was nominated in 1984 for his starring role in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George . His numerous stage appearances also include The Secret Garden, The Tempest, Falsettos, Leave It to Beaver is Dead, Hamlet, Trelawney of the 'Wells,' The Shadow Box, The Split and Savages . Among his screen credits are "Yentl," "The Princess Bride," "Dick Tracy," "Chicago Hope," "Criminal Minds" and "Dead Like Me."
As previously reported, Tony and Emmy Award-nominated actress Martha Plimpton (Pal Joey, Coast of Utopia ) will be on hand to bestow the Princess Grace Theatre Awards, which will be presented to Ann Bartek, Craig Bazan, Colin K. Bills, James Darrah, Nicolette Robinson, Lily Whitsitt and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.
Theatre Honoraria will be awarded to Denise Quiñones (Repertorio Espanol), Meghan Raham (Kansas City Repertory Theatre) and Tony Speciale (Classic Stage Company); while Princess Grace Statue Awards will be presented to Classic Stage Company artistic director Brian Kulick and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Gillian Murphy.
