Obie winner David Cale's solo play Palomino, a look into the life of an Irish carriage driver in Manhattan, officially opens at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre Oct. 16.

The world-premiere engagement began performances Oct. 9 and will run through Nov. 15 on the Copaken Stage.

Palomino, according to press notes, "follows Kieren McGrath, a beautiful, literate, and mysterious Irish Central Park carriage driver. Kieren dreams of writing a book, and when the opportunity to become an escort to rich, lonely women in NYC comes up, he's found his subject. Or has he?"

The Long Wharf Theatre commissioned the play, which was developed as part of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program. Cale's works include Lillian, Somebody Else's House, Deep in a Dream of You, Smooch Music, and The Redthroats. He has been featured on NPR's "This American Life," and has had his lyrics performed by musicians such as Elvis Costello, Deborah Harry and the Jazz Passengers.

Designing Palomino are Paul Joseph Barnett (set design), Laura Bauer (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Jeffrey Cady (projection design) and Andre Pluess (sound design).
