Tony Award winner Bill Irwin and Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant will participate in the Theaters Against War vigils at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan.

Created as a protest against arrest and detention of Queens native and Brooklyn College graduate Syed Fahad Hashmi, who has been held in solitary confinement by authorities for over two years on charges of alleged material support to Al Qaeda, the weekly vigils, titled "No Guantanamos at Home or Abroad," will begin Oct. 19 and continue throughout Hashmi's trial.

Each Monday, from 6-7 PM, THAW and its supporters will hold a vigil outside the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Artists scheduled to attend include Irwin (Bye Bye Birdie), Chalfant (W;t, Angels in America), as well as Wallace Shawn, Betty Shamieh, Kia Corthron, Leila Buck and more to be announced.
