Matt Cavenaugh will play his final performance as Tony in the Broadway revival of West Side Story on Dec. 13 at the Palace Theatre.

Known for his roles in Urban Cowboy, Grey Gardens and A Catered Affair, Cavenaugh was cast by Tony-winning West Side Story librettist and director Arthur Laurents for the revival that first premiered at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. in December of 2008. A replacement has not been announced.

"I want to thank the producers and the entire creative team, especially Arthur, for the opportunity to play the iconic role that inspired me (and countless others) to pursue a career in the theatre. I have been blessed to work with such an incredible cast, who sweat blood and tears every night, to honor and share one of the greatest musicals ever written to a devoted and loving audience," Cavenaugh said in a statement.

Cavenaugh's upcoming projects include a pilot for a new musical comedy, as well as a series of concerts with his wife Jenny Powers (Happiness, Grease) that will feature the music of Leonard Bernstein.

The current revival of West Side Story opened at the Palace Theatre March 19. Principal cast members also include Tony-winner Karen Olivo (In the Heights) as Anita, Josefina Scaglione as Maria, John Arthur Greene as Riff and George Akram as Bernardo.

West Side Story has music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Laurents. The staging retains the original choreography of late director Jerome Robbins, which has been restaged by Joey McKneely.
