Three Sisters, which marks Doyle's second production for the Playhouse and his first non-musical production for American audiences, began previews Oct. 24 and will run through Nov. 21 in the Robert S. Marx Theatre. Doyle's staging of Company played the Playhouse in the Park prior to Broadway.
Leading the Three Sisters company are Hannah Cabell (A Man for All Seasons) as Irina, Alma Cuervo (Road Show, Titanic) as Olga and Laila Robins (Frozen, Heartbreak House) as Masha. Tony Award winner Frank Wood (Side Man, August: Osage County) portrays Tuzenbach, with Alexander Gemignani (Road Show, Sweeney Todd) as Andrei, Lynn Cohen (Ivanov, Chasing Manet) as Anfisa, Keith Reddin (The Play's the Thing) as Kulygin, Corey Stoll (Old Acquaintance) as Vershinin, Sarah Agnew as Natasha, Terry Greiss as Chebutykin, Felix Solis as Solyony, Ronald Cohen as Ferapont, Tim Abrahamsen as Second Lieutenant, Joe Watts, Jr. as Second Lieutenant and Kelly Pekar as the Maid.
Adapter Sarah Ruhl is making her Broadway playwrighting debut with the Lincoln Center Theater production of In the Next Room or the vibrator play. Her works also include Eurydice, Dead Man's Cell Phone and The Clean House, among others.
The Playhouse in the Park describes Three Sisters as "a poignant tale of love and dreams and the never-ending pursuit of happiness."
John Doyle first premiered the 2006 actor-musician revival of Stephen Sondheim's Company at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park prior to its Tony-winning Broadway transfer. In addition to the revivals of Sweeney Todd (Tony Award) and Company (Tony nomination), Doyle staged the Broadway production of A Catered Affair and the world premiere of the Stephen Sondheim-John Weidman musical Road Show at the Public Theater.
