Lincoln Center Theater characterizes the play this way: "Set at the dawn of the age of electricity and based on the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat 'hysterical' women (and some men), the play centers on a doctor and his wife and how his new therapy affects their entire household."
Obie-winning director Les Waters directs a cast that also features Clarence Derwent Award winner Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Ruined), Ruhl veteran Maria Dizzia (Berkley Rep world premiere of In the Next Room, Eurydice), Thomas Jay Ryan (The Tempermentals, Passion Play), Wendy Rich Stetson and Chandler Williams.
