Matt Wilkinson's Red Sea Fish, the story of a retired thief whose passions are newly aroused, opens at 59E59 Theaters Nov. 8 as part of the 2009 Brits Off-Broadway Festival.
Red Sea Fish features original Brighton cast members Tim Blissett, Janna Fox and Matt Houghton. The production has set and costume design by Jess Weisner and lighting design by Pat Boxall.
According to press notes, "Ray, a retired thief, sees out his days on the top floor of a tower block on the South Coast. Confined during the day by a rare skin condition, he's cared for by his son Terry. Ray merrily fills the air with accounts of lost love, past misadventure and the daily observations of a bitter old man. When Terry invites a young runaway back to the flat, she ignites long forgotten passions in Ray. Red Sea Fish is a darkly funny and ultimately tender story about loss, identity and the folly of trying to control the world."
Additional productions presented as part of Brits Off-Broadway are Alan Ayckbourn's My Wonderful Day (Nov. 11-Dec. 13); Toby Davies' Wolves at the Window (Nov. 10-Dec. 6); Mary Swan and Saul Jaffé's Merrick, The Elephant Man (Nov. 24-Dec. 13); Nichola McAuliffe's A British Subject (Dec. 9-Jan. 3, 2010); Simon Green (Dec. 15-Jan. 4, 2010); Fascinating Aida is Absolutely Miraculous (Dec. 16-Jan. 4, 2010).
