The George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, NJ, has announced a change in the lineup for its current season.
Ken Ludwig's
Fox on the Fairway, which had been scheduled to play the New Jersey venue this spring, has been moved to the 2010-11 season due to artists' schedules. In its place will be the A.R. Gurney comedy
Sylvia.
Artistic director David Saint will helm the comedy, which is scheduled to run March 30-April 25, 2010, with an official opening April 2.
In a statement, director Saint said, "I am thrilled to be welcoming back Pete Gurney to the Playhouse, and to be directing this incredibly funny romantic farce. Sylvia is a wonderful and worthy replacement, and I look forward to bringing it to our patrons this season."
Casting will be announced shortly.
In Sylvia, press notes state, "Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after 22 years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg's career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate's career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park — or that has found him —b earing only 'Sylvia' on her name tag. A street-smart mutt, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives."
