The highly theatrical play about an actress-writer creating a theatre piece about her life features Kate Levy as "Lisa," who casts her own mother, played by Kathleen M. Brady, in the experimental work. Chaos erupts when mom goes off-script: She admonishes her daughter to be honest about her intentions for the play and "lovingly" corrects her memories of the past.
Performances in The Ricketson Theatre began Nov. 6 and continue to Dec. 19. (Previews for DCTC's production of Alan Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular, meanwhile, begin Nov. 13 on DCTC's Space Theatre, toward an opening on Nov. 19, for a run to Dec. 19.)
According to the Tony Award-winning DCTC, in Well, "an ensemble of actors weave their way in and out of the scenes as mother and daughter explore the power of illness, family and community with endearing poignancy and frankness."
Director Christy Montour-Larson makes her Denver Center directing debut with Well.
Her design team includes scenic designer Lisa M. Orzolek, costume designer Meghan Anderson Doyle, lighting designer Jane Spencer and sound designer Kimberly Fuhr. The dramaturg is Douglas Langworthy and fight direction is by Geoffrey Kent.
Well was nominated for two Tony Awards in 2006: Best Actress in a Play (for Kron) and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Jayne Houdyshell).
