Roundabout Theatre Company will extend its production of Theresa Rebeck's showbiz comedy, The Understudy, by two weeks, now to Jan. 17, 2010.

Scott Ellis directs the play by the author of Mauritius. The New York City premiere features Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Jake, Justin Kirk as the title character, Harry, and Tony Award winner Julie White as stage manager Roxanne. The production opened Nov. 5 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).

The design team includes Alexander Dodge (sets), Tom Broecker (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lights), Obadiah Eaves (original music and sound).

According to Roundabout, "The most thankless job in theatre takes center stage in Theresa Rebeck's new look at the underbelly of the acting world. Through the course of a dress rehearsal, we glimpse all the genius, bitterness and ridiculousness that underscore a life in showbiz."

The Understudy plays Tuesday through Saturday evening at 7:30 PM, with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 PM.
