Public Songwriter Showcase Offers Taste of New Musicals; Groff, Gilpin, Walsh Sing

The Public Theater's Music Theater Initiative will present its second Songwriter Showcase Nov. 16 at Joe's Pub.



The evening will offer sneak previews of three musicals: Like Water for Chocolate, A Thousand Words Come to Mind and Kansas City Choirboy. Show time is 7 PM.

The concert is curated by MTI director, Tony Award winner Ted Sperling. Sam Gold and Jack Cummings III will direct.

Jonathan Groff and Betty Gilpin will perform excerpts from Todd Almond's Kansas City Choirboy. Barbara Walsh will offer selections from Scott Davenport Richards and Michele Lowe's A Thousand Words Come to Mind. Excerpts from Lila Downs, Paul Cohen and Quiara Alegria Hudes' Like Water for Chocolate will be performed by Downs and Martin Sola.
