Welsh Poet Thomas to Materialize in Do Not Go Gentle Off-Broadway

Geraint Wyn Davies will portray poet Dylan Thomas in Leon Pownall's Do Not Go Gentle, which will begin performances Off-Broadway Nov. 19.



A veteran of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and a Helen Hayes Award winner, Davies will headline the work that is scheduled to open Dec. 6 and will run through Jan. 10, 2010 at the Clurman Theatre.

Director Dean Gabourie recreates the original staging of the work, which was penned and originally performed by Leon Pownall. MRK Productions produces the Off-Broadway run.

According to press notes, "Do Not Go Gentle finds Dylan Thomas in Purgatory, reflecting on the influences in his life that brought him there. From stories of his childhood, to his marital regrets and his success in America, these reflections run from the tragic to the humorous to the downright fantastic."

Davies has appeared on stage in Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Cyrano (Helen Hayes Award), Love's Labour's Lost and opposite Christopher Plummer in King Lear at Lincoln Center Theater. He is well known for his work on television's "Slings and Arrows."

Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who died at the age of 39, is known for his poetry including his book "Eighteen Poems," as well as "Under Milk Wood," "And death shall have no dominion," "Do not go gentle into that good night" and "Deaths and Entrances."
