Producers David Richenthal, Jack Viertel and Alan D. Marks announced that the cast and orchestra of the critically-acclaimed revival will head into a Manhattan recording studio on Dec. 7. The new Broadway cast album will be produced by Tommy Krasker for PS Classics. The label anticipates an early February street date.
Finian's Rainbow has a book by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy; lyrics by Yip Harburg; music by Burton Lane; with book adaptation by Arthur Perlman and original adaptation for New York City Center Encores! by David Ives.
The revival is directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle. Musical supervision and vocal arrangements are by Rob Berman. Original orchestrations are by Robert Russell Bennett and Don Walker.
Finian's Rainbow opened at Broadway's St. James Theatre on Oct. 29, 2009, to enthusiastic reviews.
The musical boasts such classic songs as "Old Devil Moon," "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love (I Love the Girl I'm Near)," "Look to the Rainbow" and "If This Isn't Love."
In October, PS Classics released the debut solo album of Finian's leading lady Kate Baldwin, "Let's See What Happens," which features songs by Lane and Harburg.
Founded in 2000 by Tommy Krasker & Philip Chaffin, and a four-time Grammy nominee (for its cast albums of Assassins, Nine: The Musical, Grey Gardens and Company), PS Classics celebrates the heritage of Broadway and American popular song through its critically acclaimed cast recordings; solo albums by such luminaries as Maureen McGovern, Victoria Clark, Jessica Molaskey and Christine Andreas; and recordings drawn from rare sound archives, including "Sondheim Sings." Its most recent releases include solo albums by Liz Callaway, Rebecca Luker, and Kate Baldwin, plus its all-star studio cast recording of Kitty's Kisses.
