REEL Good Productions, LLC, has acquired the film rights to "My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story." The autobiography of the former Hairspray star was originally published by William Morrow and Company.

The film will mark REEL Good Productions' first independent project.

In a statement REEL Good Productions founder Karen Braithwaite said, "REEL Good Productions is thrilled to be working with Ms. Love on this, our first independent film project. Her story and its historic significance culturally and musically, should be shared with a wider audience. It is particularly thrilling in light of the fact that she is being recognized this year as a 2010 nominee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

Singer-actress Love added, "I am so excited about what we are getting ready to do with REEL Good Productions. They have so much passion for this project – they see what the Darlene Love story is about. It's more than a tale about me; this story is a history lesson about the business, about Phil Spector's influence, it's about culture and so much more. I have had other people interested in bringing this story to the big screen, but none of them grasped the entirety of it like these people."

Hayden Adams is currently in negotiations to write the screenplay. The working title for the film is "Who is Darlene Love?"

Actress-singer Darlene Love, whose pop hits include such sixties classics as "He's a Rebel" and "Da Doo Ron Ron," has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray, Grease, Leader of the Pack and the cult classic Carrie. She was also nominated to the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. Love's screen credits include "Shindig!," "Change of Habit," "Another World" and all four "Lethal Weapon" films. Her most recent recordings are titled "Age of Miracles" and "Unconditional Love."
