Tyler Perry Returns to the Stage with Madea's Big Happy Family National Tour

Tyler Perry will take his beloved matriarch character on the road this winter with the live stage show, Madea's Big Happy Family, the actor-director-producer announced Dec. 1.

Perry stated on his website: "I gotta tell you, I have missed you. There is nothing like a live performance and if you've never seen a Madea play, then you haven't seen Madea at all. It is an experience, just ask someone who's seen it.

"It's been five years since I've been on the road and the timing just happened to fall right into place. I needed to get away from Hollywood for a second...clear my head. There is no better way to do that than to come out and see your faces and be reminded of where this all started."

The star has seen his stage alter-ego, Mable "Madea" Simmons, jump from stage to the big screen in such films as "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," "Madea's Family Reunion," "Madea Goes to Jail" and the latest "I Can Do Bad All by Myself."
