Joining Smith (The Trip to Bountiful, Dividing the Estate) and Margulies (Chasing Manet, Conversations With My Father) will be Kristine Nielsen (Why Torture Is Wrong, Die Mommie Die), Nick Blaemire (Cry-Baby, Glory Days) and Lucy Walters (Bang Day, F*ckPlays).
As previously reported, Jo Bonney will direct the production that is scheduled to run Jan. 6, 2010 through Feb. 7, 2010 on Stage II.
According to press notes, "As Lillian (Lois Smith) nears a milestone birthday, she and her family put the finishing touches on the much-anticipated party at which she’ll make her singing debut. There’s a speech to be written, a band to rehearse and, of course, an outfit to be chosen. But then Lil’s husband Charlie’s (David Margulies) secret gets out - the birthday surprise that he hoped would make her day may instead tear their lives apart. In Darci Picoult’s playful and poignant new play, it is the power of love that stands the test of aging."
The production has set design by Frank Alberino, lighting by Lap Chi Chu, costumes by Ilona Somogyi and sound design by Jill DuBoff. April Donahower is the dramaturg. Erin Hill will musical direct.
The Long Wharf Theatre is located at 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven, CT.
