Also on the bill are Colin Greer's Heschel, "the telling of Polish American Rabbi Abraham Heschel's perspectives on racial justice, anti-Semitism, and war"; and RAM: The Abduction of Sita into Darkness, "a stage adaptation of the Indian epic masterpiece, The Ramayana, also by Yael Farber."
Swimming Upstream, which was originally created by Eve Ensler and Carol Bebelle, in partnership with V-Day and the Ashé Cultural Arts Center, will commemorate the 5th anniversary of the hurricane that devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The work was previously presented by Atlanta's True Colors Theatre in 2008.
Penned by 16 New Orleans artists, Swimming Upstream is described as a "creative re-telling of what transpired [that] will serve as a reminder to drive attention to a national story that has slipped from the headlines."
The Culture Project will also continue its Blueprint for Accountability series, which takes aim at torture and war crimes and sheds light on American topics like health care immigration and the economy. The company will bring the series to Washington D.C., in February 2010.
