David Strathairn, Kathleen Chalfant and Theodore Bikel participate in "Will The Circle be Unbroken: Studs Terkel Celebration" Dec. 7 at Georgetown University.

The 8 PM event promises "a poignant evening of song, story and celebration. In this concert-style reading of the life-affirming adaptation of Terkel’s book of interviews on death and dying, the subjects range from everyday citizens — parents, medics, patients, teachers, and clergy — to recognizable figures such as author Kurt Vonnegut, actress Uta Hagen, musician Doc Watson, and Studs Terkel himself."

Joining Strathairn, Chalfant and Bikel are Rick Foucheux, Keith Randolph, Cheryl Lynn Bruce, as well as Washington D.C. theatre veterans and Georgetown students and alumni.

Georgetown and Arena Stage co-present the evening that commemorates the life of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning author, who died in 2008 at the age of 96. His book "Working" was adapted into the 1978 Broadway musical of the same title, and the 1980 play The American Clock was inspired by his book "Hard Times."
