A by-invitation-only staged reading of the new musical Bathory — based on the life of the 16th-century Countess Elizabeth Bathory — will be presented Dec. 21 in Manhattan.

The cast will feature Sarah Cooney, Nicole DeCario, Alison Drew, Jessica Fishenfeld, Frederic Heringes, Lisa Helmi Johanson, Melissa Jones, Caitlin Kinnunen, Matt Leisy, Alyssa Malgeri, Karen Myatt, Kristin Purcell and Anna Marie Sell.

Bathory was penned by David Levinson (score) and Daniel Levinson (book). The musical, according to press notes, is described as such: "The story of the last year of the real life Countess Erzsébet Báthory's (Purcell) reign. She was a Protestant in a Catholic nation, she had more money and land than the king, and supposedly killed over 600 women to bath in their blood in an effort to retain her eternal youth. But was Erzsébet the villianess that history would have us believe? Did she really begin to lose mind on her own, or had someone far more sinister stacked the deck against her?"

Mark Hartman Will be the musical director for the upcoming reading.
