Russell Hornsby and Charlayne Woodard lead the cast of Lynn Nottage's Crumbs from the Table of Joy at L.A. Theatreworks, beginning Dec. 9.

Seret Scott directs the limited engagement that runs through Dec. 13 at the Skirball Cultural Center.

In addition to Woodard (The Night Watcher) and Hornsby (Seven Guitars), the cast includes Kate Steele, Deidrie Henry (Coming Home, Yellowman) and Tinashe Kajese (Victory).

"In Crumbs from the Table of Joy, the Crump family is in trouble. Godfrey is widowed and adrift, and his teen daughters, Ernestine and Ermina, have immersed themselves in glamorous illusions of Hollywood to escape the racial prejudice of 1950s Brooklyn. But things change quickly when free-spirited Aunt Lily shows up. Suddenly, Godfrey remarries a white woman, Ermina discovers boys, and Ernestine is torn between embracing bebop and the Communist Party," press notes state.

As with all LATW productions, the production will be recorded and broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's the Thing."

For tickets to any of "The Play's the Thing" productions at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, call the L.A. Theatre Works box office at (310) 827-0889.
