"Nine" Sets Record with Ten Critics Choice Nominations

"Nine" leads the pack at the Broadcast Film Critics Association's 15th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards.



Both Rob Marshall's "Nine" and Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" each received a record-setting ten nominations each.

"Nine," the film adaption of Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit's 1982 Tony Award-winning musical, was nominated for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Ensemble, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Sound and Best Song, according to the LA Times blog.

Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" received nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Ensemble, Best Director for Tarantino, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design and Best Action Movie.

"Avatar," "An Education," "The Hurt Locker," "Invictus," "Precious," "A Serious Man," "Up" and "Up in the Air" are also nominated in the Best Picture category.

Several Broadway performers are also nominated for Critics Choice Movie Awards: Morgan Freeman (The Country Girl, Purlie) is nominated for Best Actor for "Invictus," and Meryl Streep (Happy End, The Cherry Orchard) is nominated for Best Actress in "Julie & Julia."

Alfred Molina (Fiddler on the Roof, Art) and Stanley Tucci (Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune) are nominated for Best Supporting Actor for "An Education" and "The Lovely Bones," respectively. In the Best Supporting Actress category, Anna Kendrick (High Society, is nominated for "Up in the Air," and Julianne Moore (The Vertical Hour) is nominated for "A Single Man."

The 15h Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards will be held on Jan. 15, 2010 at the Hollywood Palladium, and will be broadcast live on VH1.
