Chalfant, who appears in the role of Hectate, earned Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for her performance in Angels in America, and is the recipient of the 2003 Obie and Out Critics Circle Awards for Talking Heads.
According to a press statement, Shakespeare Remix Macbeth is "a product of the troupe's nationally acclaimed after-school program that was recently honored with the 2009 Coming Up Taller Award, which was presented by First Lady Michelle Obama in Washington, DC. The production features new writing by students at New York City's Chelsea High School."
Directed by Epic Theatre Ensemble's executive director Melissa Freidman, Chelsea High School student and head writer Shana Brown plays Lady Macbeth. The production also features James Wallert (Duncan), Godfrey L. Simmons Jr. (MacDuff) and John Keabler (Old Man/Siward). All other roles are played by Chelsea High School students.
