The cast album of Off-Broadway's Vanities, the musical version of Jack Heifner's popular 1976 play about three cheerleaders who grow up and grow apart over the years, is available for digital download from Ghostlight Records. An in-store release date will be announced in early 2010.

Vanities, with music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum, played a summer run at Second Stage Theatre Off-Broadway in 2009.

Directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, and featuring a book by Heifner, the 2009 production starred Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles and Anneliese van der Pol.

The recording was made available digitally starting on Dec. 15, wherever digital music is sold, and from the Ghostlight Records website (www.ghostlightrecords.com). Ghostlight Records is a division of Sh-K-Boom Records.

The album was produced by Grammy-winning music producer Joel Moss.

The recording includes liner notes by Melissa Rose Bernardo of Entertainment Weekly, a synopsis by playwright-book writer Jack Heifner, and all the lyrics by songwriter David Kirshenbaum, as well as full-color photos from the Off-Broadway production.

According to production notes, "Vanities: A New Musical traces the relationship of three friends, Mary (Lauren Kennedy), Joanne (Sarah Stiles) and Kathy (Anneliese van der Pol) as they transition from small town girls in Texas to college students and finally grown women with careers, children, marriages and conflicts."

The show was originally produced at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, CA, in 2006. The musical won the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Best Musical. An engagement at the Pasadena Playhouse in California followed.
