Because the Tony Awards has retired the Special Theatrical Event category, productions that may have been eligible in that category will now be eligible in the Best Musical or Best Play categories.

According to Howard Sherman, executive director of the American Theatre Wing, the dance extravaganza Burn the Floor will be eligible in the Best Musical category, and the solo Carrie Fisher evening, Wishful Drinking, will be eligible in the Best Play category.

Burn the Floor will play its final performance at the Longacre Theatre Jan. 10, 2010. Directed by Tony Taccone, Wishful Drinking will play to Jan. 17, 2010, at Studio 54.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2009-2010 season to decide the eligibility for the 2010 Tony Awards.

The Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from Radio City Music Hall on the CBS television network on June 14, 2010. For more information on the Tony Awards, visit www.TonyAwards.com.
