The Seattle Repertory Theatre has announced casting for Stephen Karam's comedy Speech and Debate, which is set to begin performances Jan. 15, 2010.

Andrea Allen directs the 2007 Off-Broadway comedy about a group of high school students. The production will officially open Jan. 20, 2010, and run through Feb. 21, 2010, in the Leo K. Theatre.

The cast of Seattle actors includes Trick Danneker (Howie), Erin Stewart (Diwata), Justin Huertas (Solomon) and Amy Thone (Teacher/Reporter).

According to press notes, "Solomon wants to write about sex scandals for the school newspaper, openly gay new kid Howie wants to find a boyfriend, and wannabe popstar Diwata would love to see her new musical version of 'The Crucible' hit Broadway. The trio knows they'll never be popular, but maybe they could at least be famous—and shake up the system while they're at it. They start an after-school speech and debate team, and the result is epic."
