The annual Summer Play Festival, founded by Tony-winning Broadway producer Arielle Tepper Madover, will take a hiatus in 2010.

For the past two seasons, The Public Theater's Lafayette Street address has served as the home for SPF, which has been in operation for six years. However, the Public is set to begin major renovations on its 158-year-old downtown home in February 2010.

SPF is planning to resume regular programming at the Public in 2011.

The Living Room for Artists, the umbrella organization under which SPF is produced, will offer new programming during 2010 to continue the development of new voices in the theatre. Details will be announced in the coming months.

“SPF is a unique summer event, and we want to ensure that our patrons and artists receive the highest quality experience that we can create. As a result, we can take this exciting opportunity to try something new and different," Madover said in a statement.

Among the artists who have been represented in the Summer Play Festival are Quiara Hudes (In The Heights), John Bucchino (A Catered Affair), Brooke Berman (Hunting & Gathering), Jim Knable (Spain), Noah Haidle (Saturn Returns), Joe Iconis (The Black Suits), Billy Finnegan (Esther Demsack) and Zayd Dohrn (Reborning).

Madover has produced the Broadway productions of Hamlet, Mary Stuart, Hair, 33 Variations Frost/Nixon, Equus, The Pillowman, Democracy, Spamalot, Jumpers and A Class Act.
