The Frank D. Gilroy drama The Subject Was Roses currently plays at Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum. Martin Sheen, Frances Conroy and Brian Geraghty star.

The Subject Was Roses, according to the press notes, is "the heartfelt and honest depiction of a father, mother and son whose complex and strained family dynamic becomes sadly clear after the son returns from a three-year stint in the Army."

Neil Pepe (Speed-The-Plow) directs the cast of three. Sheen, who starred in the original Broadway production as the war-veteran son Timmy, now steps in as the father figure, John while Geraghty ("The Hurt Locker") fills his former role. The trio is rounded out by Conroy ("Six Feet Under") as the matriarch Nettie.
