Anthony Newley "Concept Recordings" CD Due in May

Anthony Newley will be heard on "Newley Discovered - The Concept Recordings," which is due May 10 on the Stage Door Records label.

The disc features the original concept recordings from three Newley movie musicals: the semi-autobiographical film "Can Heironymus Merkin..." with a score by Newley and Herbert Kretzmer; "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory," the 1971 film composed with Leslie Bricusse; and the 1974 film "Mr. Quilp," a musical adaptation of Dickens' "Old Curiosity Shop," in which Newley played the title role.

Anthony Newley wrote the scores for the Broadway musicals Stop the World — I Want to Get Off and The Roar of the Greasepaint — The Smell of the Crowd. Among his more famous tunes are "What Kind of Fool Am I," "Once in a Lifetime," "Gonna Build a Mountain," "Who Can I Turn To," "Talk to the Animals," "The Candy Man" and "Goldfinger."
