The 39 Steps will kick off the MainStage season, running June 29-July 10. Joe Grifasi will direct a cast including Jason Collins, Liam Craig, Kathleen McElfresh and Matthew Schmidt. The actors will play 150 roles in the zany comedy thriller inspired by the Hitchcock film.
The East Coast regional premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q will perform July 15-July 31. Broadway cast alums David Benoit, Steven Booth, Lexy Fridell, Zonya Love Johnson and Sharon Wheatley will appear opposite Randy Blair and Christine Toy Johnson. The puppet-friendly production will be directed by Tim Fort and choreographed by Jacob Brent with music direction by Rob Meffe.
Damn Yankees is up next, playing Aug. 5-21. Malcolm Ewen will direct a cast featuring Marcus Neville (The Full Monty) as Applegate, the devilish salesman who convinces an old man to sell his soul for a young body and baseball career, with David Bonanno, Mathew deGuzman, Thursday Farrar, Patty Goble, Munson Hicks, Nadine Isenegger, Allen Kendall, Brian Massey, Dorothy Stanley, Theis Weckesser and Brandy Zarle. Jeff Lodin will provide music direction, and Susan Hagan will choreograph.
The MainStage season will close when Lloyd ("Taxi," "Back to the Future," Kaspar, Happy End) returns to the Playhouse as the doomed Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman (Aug. 26-Sept. 11). The Steve Stettler-directed production of the tragic Arthur Miller masterpiece will tour New England in early October, and will also feature Jeremy Bobb, Matt Harrington, Munson Hicks, Beth Hylton, Philip Kerr, Liz Morton, Markus Potter, John Leonard Thompson, Amy Van Nostrand and Brandy Zarle.
